Formation

From Me to You was written during a tour of Helen Shapiro, in which the Beatles were also involved. The song by John Lennon and Paul McCartney was composed together and thus one of the rather few true Lennon / McCartney compositions. The title refers to the letter to the editor page of music magazine New Musical Express which is From You to Us overwritten.

Recording

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr took the song five days after his composition on 5 March 1963 in the Abbey Road Studios in London. Producer was George Martin. Electric guitars, bass, drums and vocals were recorded in seven takes, live in the studio. Then, choir, solo guitar and harmonica were added by overdubbing. The harmonica is heard only in the mono mix of the song; in the later made ​​stereo version, she was not taken.

Publication

On April 11, 1963, the song in the UK was released as a single. On the B - side is the song Thank You Girl. The song reached number one on the singles charts in the UK. Overall, it was 21 weeks in the charts.

In the United States, the song was also released as a single, but could not place it there. Nationally, only 4,000 copies were sold. In contrast, placed a published in June 1963 cover of Del Shannon on the Billboard Hot 100 ( No. 77 ), and stayed there for four weeks in the charts.
