Frontier Airlines

Frontier Airlines is an American low-cost airline with headquarters in Denver.

History

The original Frontier Airlines had its base at the former Stapleton International Airport in Denver. The 1985 was taken over by People Express failed and forced the combined airlines shortly after a merger with Continental Airlines.

In 1994, former Frontier Manager, the successor company. Like its predecessor, it initially used on a fleet of up to five Boeing 737 jets, but the complete change was completed at Airbus aircraft types Airbus A319 and Airbus A318 with April 2005. Frontier Airlines was the launch customer for the Airbus A318 in 2003 and had up to nine aircraft of this type.

On 10 April 2008 Frontier Airlines reported for bankruptcy under Chapter 11, the flight operations but was continued under bankruptcy protection. On August 13, 2009 Republic Airways Holdings won the bidding war for Frontier Airlines. This has since been a 100 percent subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings, and left in the fall of 2009 the bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11

In the summer of 2013 Frontier Airlines mustered from their last copies of the Airbus A318 -100.

In September 2013, the previous owner, Republic Airways Holdings Frontier sold to the investor Indigo.

Destinations

From its home base from Denver International Airport offers Frontier flights within the United States, for example, to Fort Lauderdale, Indianapolis, Sacramento and Boston, as well as to Mexico and Costa Rica.

Many aircraft from Frontier Airlines are equipped with a system for Internet use on board of the provider Gogo, which while in flight, at the time, however, a fee is possible only within the United States, surfing the Web.

Trivia

  • According to their slogan A Whole Different Animal Frontier machines have pictures of different wild animals on the tail. Basically, species were selected that are either in the Rocky Mountains at home or occur in the serviced areas. Each animal carries a symbolic name (eg Grizwald the Grizzly ), and are each representative assigned special properties. The best shots of animals selected in contests and mounted on the tail. In the initial phase, the Boeing 737-200 of the company contributed two different animals on each page. These suggested in the initial phase of the then young airline is not quite unintentionally a larger fleet.
