Fröttmaninger Berg

The Fröttmaninger Mountain is a recreation area on the 75 -meter-high former landfill on the northern outskirts of Munich. It is situated in the Munich district Freimann, on the highway Munich - Nuremberg ( A9 ) with respect to the Allianz Arena. In addition, he is surrounded by the motorway intersection München -Nord, Autobahnring Munich ( A 99 ), the Freising country road with the Auensiedlung and the Freimann Mosque as well as the wastewater treatment plant Good Großlappen. Landfill

In 1954, the landfill was Großlappen opened to exploit the growing amount of waste, which arose in the times of the economic miracle, and deposit. In the 1960s, the environmental problems have become increasingly serious. Renaturation

There has already been started in 1973 with a partial restoration, but it was not until the 80s, until the mountain was completely landscaped and because of a new landfill and incineration larger capacity, the landfill was closed. In 1985, a subterranean, up to 20 m deep concrete wall has been installed, in order to protect groundwater. Simultaneously, a degasser was installed to dispose of the resulting fermentation gases. The resulting through the rain leachate is collected by a special plant, controls on pollutants and introduced into the treatment plant. At the end of several layers of soil were applied with a height of two meters.

In 2009, restoration measures were carried out again, because part of the soil had slipped.

Park

On 35 hectares, now spanning a diverse structured parkland. Meadows and native wood structures alternate. The meadows are maintained by extensive sheep grazing. At the foot of the mountain slope, the effluent water forms a wetland. The Fröttmaninger mountain is an important building block in the biotope network environment, in particular the adjacent floodplain forest and the Fröttmaninger Heath.

Recreation

The residents of Munich's north is the mountain for walks and bike rides, a playground for children was also created. In the winter, it serves as a sledding hill. It is planned to build on the mountain a winter sports area with three lifts, which will go in the winter 2012/2013 into operation.

Holy Cross Church
