Fruehauf Trailer Corporation

The Fruehauf Corporation was an American truck and trailer manufacturers in Indianapolis, Indiana.

August Charles Fruehauf (1868-1930), a blacksmith and carriage builder, came from the Detroit metropolitan area. In 1914 he built a boat trailer on behalf of a customer. The client wanted to have built by him after shipment in a trailer for long timber transports. Fruehauf, who built them, called his product "semi- trailer". In 1918, he expanded the product line and named his company into Fruehauf Trailer Company.

1973, the automotive Kelsey -Hayes was acquired, which was sold in 1989 to Varity.

In April 1997, the insolvent company of Wabash National Corporation was acquired.
