Frumpy

Frumpy is a Hamburg rock band that existed from 1969 to 1972 and in 1990 the newly formed.

Band History

1969 left drummer Carsten Bohn, singer Inga Rumpf, French keyboarder Jean -Jacques Kravetz and bassist Karl -Heinz Schott Hamburg Formation The City Preachers, which was founded in 1965, and were formed under the name frumpy. The band's name is a pun on the name of the band leader Inga Rumpf and means unbecoming in translation.

By the fall of 1970 were frumpy including France and Germany on the stage, for example, next to the then already famous band Yes. Subsequently, the four musicians went into the studio and recorded their first album, All Will Be Changed, which appeared in the same year at Philips Records.

In the Federal Republic of Germany, this album was successful and proved that music could compete internationally from Germany. Especially Inga hull powerful vocals, the long keyboard loops and the jazzy elements seemed to have hit the zeitgeist.

Especially in the freshly created Progressive Rock is a place for Frumpy was quickly found in the Krautrock division. The critics did not remain untouched by frumpy. So chose the Music Express Frumpy the most popular band of the year, and also the FAZ wrote positively.

In 1971, the band around guitarist Rainer Baumann has been extended and it appeared the second LP, Frumpy 2, again with Philips Records. This album was recorded almost live under conditions. Projects of the musicians after 1972

Inga Rumpf, Jean -Jacques Kravetz and Karl -Heinz Schott founded in 1972, the also successful successor band Frumpy, Atlantis. Carsten Bohn founded, with different musicians in different ensembles, his own band Carsten Bohn's Bandstand ( in the period from 1977 to 1981 ). From 1979 to 1983 Bohn has composed music for the radio play label Europe, many of which were used in famous series such as Five friends TKKG, three question marks, Pizza band among others. Rainer Baumann started his own band, Rainer Baumann band, with whom he was traveling in various occupations until 2002.

Frumpy took place in 1990 back together and produced three more albums, but they are musically much smoother and quieter than the early years.
