Fu Manchu (Band)

Fu Manchu is a stoner rock band from California. The band recorded in their early days, relatively many line-up changes, with only Scott Hill was left of the original line. Since the entry of Scott Reeder (2001) the cast is constant.

Band History

The band was founded in 1987 under the name Virulence as a hardcore band. Their early style was influenced by Black Flag and Bl'ast.

The first single Kept Between Trees, not singing at Scott Hill, was published in 1990 Slap -a -Ham Records. 1992, the second single was released Senioritis Zuma Records. In the same year published by Elastic Records the Singles Summer Pick Up and Do not Bother Knockin '. The vocals on these singles came from Scott Hill, where Glen Chivens and Greg McCaughey, who was replaced by Mark Abshire on bass, the band left. In addition met with Scott Votaw a second guitarist for the band, which was after the release of the singles replaced by Eddie Glass. The first album of the band No One Rides For Free was released in 1994 with Bong Load Custom and was produced by former Kyuss drummer Brant Bjork.

1995 Mark Abshire was replaced by Brad Davis and released the album Daredevil. With this line also the following album In Search of ... was recorded.

Due to the increasing popularity and to its perceived strong rock orientation of the band left Ruben Romano (replaced by former Kyuss drummer Brant Bjork ) and Eddie Glass (replaced by Bob Balch ) the band and founded by Mark Abshire the psychedelic rock band Nebula.

In 1997, the Godzilla EP was released, still without a new lead guitarist. Therefore, Hill played both guitar itself, as lead guitarist under the pseudonym " Mike Cooper - Smith." The photographs in this session were later published with the " Eatin ' dust" recordings as " Eatin ' dust".

Published in 1997 Fu Manchu Album The Action is Go. For the first track Evil Eye, a music video was shot. In 1998, a compilation of old songs was published under the title Return to Earth 91-93, which were previously only found on long out of print singles.

In autumn 1999, followed by the Joe Barresi ( Queens of the Stone Age) produced studio album King of the Road. Shortly after the album was released Eatin 'Dust. After the completion of the following album California Crossing in 2001, drummer Brant Bjork left the band to pursue solo projects, and was on the upcoming tour for the new album by Scott Reeder (not to be confused with the ex- Kyuss bassist ) replaced. Since then the band line-up is constant. On this tour were also the pictures to be published in 2003 double live album Go for It ... Live! made.

After the winter of 2003, the single was released Something Beyond ( 2004) was the album Start the Machine released the following summer.

On 16 February 2007 her tenth studio album We Must Obey released on Century Media. It was recorded at the Grand Masters Recorders Studio in Hollywood, where recordings also among other Tool or Nine Inch Nails albums.

On October 10, 2009 appeared "Signs of Infinite Power ", produced by Sergio Chavez.

Style

The character played by Fu Manchu music can be assigned to the stoner rock. The guitar riffs are usually knitted simplistic, but a punchy guitar sound, often paired with slower, more viscous rhythms is characteristic of their music. Her style is influenced among other things by rock bands like Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer and Led Zeppelin, but also by hardcore bands of the 80s and by the California skater and surfer scene since the 70s (see also Dogtown ). The lyrics of the band are often about movies of the 70s, most so-called B-movies, Southern California and the life there, skateboards, surfing, cars and driving, women, paranormal phenomena, such as UFOs and Big Foot, Play poker and strip to internals.
