Fuat Deniz

Fuat Deniz ( Syro -Aramaic ܦ ܘ ܐ ܕ ܕ ܢ ܝ ܙ; born July 24, 1967 in Kerburan, Tur Abdin, Turkey, † 13 December 2007) was an Aramaic sociologist and writer with Swedish citizenship. Until his assassination in 2007, he worked as a Lecturer in Sociology at the Department of Social and Political Sciences, University of Örebro.

Deniz was born as the eldest son in an Aramaic family in Southeastern Anatolia. He came with his parents than eight years after Sweden and grew up in Örebro. In his youth he was in the Assyrian Youth Federation active, of which he was also the co-founder, and was a dilingenter writer for the magazine of the Swedish National Federation Assyrian, Hujådå. 1999 he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology at the University of Uppsala. In his doctoral thesis entitled De minoritets Odyssé ( " The Odyssey of a minority " ) he deals with the experiences of the Assyrians, who came in the 1970s in Sweden. Deniz was also a well-known figure among the Assyrian community in Sweden and internationally recognized for his research on the genocide of the Arameans.

On 11 December 2007 at 15.30 CET clock, Fuat Deniz was assaulted within the University of Örebro and stabbed in the neck. He died two days later of his wounds in hospital Örebro University. In the media, there was much speculation about a possible political motive behind the murder - because of Deniz ' research on the genocide of the Arameans. On 16 January 2008, a 42- year-old man was arrested in Gothenburg on suspicion of murder.
