Fudai (Iwate)

Fudai (Japanese普 代 村, -mura ) is a village community in the district Shimohei in northeastern Iwate Prefecture in Japan.

Geography

Fudai is located on the Pacific Ocean on the Sanriku coast, which is characterized here by high cliffs. The more than 100 m high Kurozaki (黒 崎, dt " black rocks " ) in the southeast are part of the Rikuchu - Kaigan National Park. There are only isolated sandy beaches and the settlement focuses on various hamlets in the few plateaus or mountain and river valleys.

The village center is located in the wide valley of Fudai -gawa (普 代 川), where the茂 市 川flows into it. This in turn is not directly at the mouth but behind a surge barrier, which is located about 300 m away from the mouth and, like the neighboring district of protected behind the harbor by a dike. The other districts are located on an elevated area. With approximately 3000 inhabitants, it is the smallest municipality in the prefecture.

At the municipal area bordered to the north Noda, to the west and south Iwaizumi Tanohata.

History

Today's church was built in Fudai reorganization of the municipal system on 1 April 1889 as part of the district Kitahei. This was merged on 29 March 1896 Nakahei and Higashihei to the district Shimohei.

In the devastating Meiji Sanriku earthquake in 1896 and Showa Sanriku earthquake of 1933 and especially their tsunamis along the village lost 439 inhabitants. At the instigation of the mayor Kōtoku Wamura (和村 幸得;. 1908/1909-1997, reg 1947-1987 ) of the harbor and the underlying district was the 15.5 m high and 155 m wide Ōtanabe dyke (太 田 名 部 防潮 堤, Ōtanabe - bōchōtei ) protected, which was completed by 58 million yen construction costs in 1967, and then the neighboring village center with the 15.5 m high and 205 m wide Fudai weir (普 代 水 门, Fudai - Suimon ), in 1984 after 3, 5 billion yen cost of construction was completed. These projects attracted great criticism in view of the much lower level of other dams in the prefecture and the costs compared to the population. Traffic

Important highways after Fudai are the National Road 45 to Sendai or Aomori, the section between Fudai and Iwaizumi as Sanriku Kita- crossing road (三 陆 北 縦 贯 道路, Sanriku Kita Jukan Doro ) is called. There is also the prefectural roads 44 and 202 in the municipality.

On the rail network Fudai is connected via the Kita- Rias Line ( North Rias Line) the railway company Sanriku tetsudō. This leads to the main stations from Miyako and Kuji. The stops in Fudai are Fudai (普 代 駅, -eki ), Shiraikaigan (白井海 岸 駅, -eki ) and Horinai (堀 内 駅, -eki ).

Education

In Fudai is a primary school and a middle school, both in close proximity to the edge of the town center weir.

Twinning

In October 1985, Fudai included a " 40 ° -north community friendship" (北纬40度 友好 町 村, hokui 40 -do Yuko Choson ) with Kotooka, as both communities were at the same latitude. With the incorporation of Kotooka after Mitane on 20 March 2006, this relationship broke up.
