Fuji T-5

The Fuji T-5 is a product manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries propeller-driven two- seat trainer and liaison aircraft. The T-5 is a further development of the Fuji KM -2, which in turn was developed from the manufactured under license Beechcraft T- 34 Mentor. Teachers and students sit in the T-5 side by side.

Development and Construction

The Fuji T-5 was developed by Fuji Heavy Industries to replace the piston engine driven Fuji KM -2 as a beginner trainer aircraft for the Marine Self-Defense Forces. Fuji equipped the cell of a KM -2 with an Allison 250 turboprop, which was then referred to as KM - 2D. This first flew on 28 June 1984. 2Kai The KM is a further development of the KM -2D with a modernized cockpit and arranged side by side seats and a sunroof instead of the side doors, as in the KM - 2D. The T -5 is an all-metal low-wing monoplane with an Allison 250 - B17D - propeller turbine and a three -blade propeller. It is equipped with a retractable tricycle landing gear and has an enclosed cabin with sliding roof and two side-by- side seating with dual controls in the aerobatic and four seats in the compound version.

Service history

The KM 2Kai was ordered by the Marine Self Defense Force as a T- 5 in March 1987. With the delivery was started in 1988. The T-5 is at the 201st training squadron.
