Fujisawa (Kanagawa)

Fujisawa (Japanese藤 沢 市, -shi ) is a city in the south of Kanagawa Prefecture.

Geography

Fujisawa, south of Tokyo, Yokohama and Yamato, west of Kamakura and east of Chigasaki at the Sagami Bay. The northern part of the city is located on the Sagamino Plateau and the southern on the Shonan coast section.

History

Fujisawa was first mentioned in Taiheiki in the late 14th century. Fujisawa developed around the 1325 built temples Yugyo -ji. Fujisawa was a post station (宿 场 町Shukuba -machi ) of the Tōkaidō during the Edo period.

Edward S. Morse began in 1877 with biological studies on the island of Enoshima. The Fujisawa Station of the Tōkaidō Main Line was opened in 1887.

On 1 October 1907, the Machi Fujisawaōtomi were (藤 沢 大 富 町, machi ) (藤 沢 大 坂 町, machi ) incorporated in Kamakura gun in Fujisawaōsaka in Koza -gun. With the incorporation of the two Mura Kugenuma (鹄 沼 村, -mura ) and Meiji (明治 村) -mura ) was established in Koza -gun on April 1, 1908, the Machi Fujisawa (藤 沢 町, machi ). On October 1, 1940 Fujisawa was appointed to the city. On 1 June 1941 the Mura Muraoka (村 冈村, -mura ), on 10 March 1942, the Mura Mutsuai (六 会 村, -mura ), on 1 April 1947, the Machi Katase (片 瀬 町, machi ) and on April 5, 1955, the district Endō (远藤) of the mura Koide (小 出 村, -mura ), the districts chogo (长 后) and Takakura (高 仓) of machi Shibuya (渋 谷 町, machi ) and the mura Goshomi (御所 见 村, -mura ) incorporated.

  • Shirahata Shrine: The deities of this Shinto shrine are Samukawahiko -no- Mikoto and Minamoto no Yoshitsune. There are two portable shrines ( mikoshi ), one for Yoshitsune and Benkei Musashibo. Both were famous people in the Kamakura period, which were also mentioned in Ruth Benedict's study chrysanthemum and sword.
