The University of Fukushima (Japanese福岛 大学, Fukushima daigaku ) is a national university in Japan. The campus is located in Fukushima, Fukushima prefecture.

History

The university was founded in 1949 by the merger of three state schools. The three were the business school Fukushima (福岛 経 済 専 门 学校, Fukushima keizai Semmon Gakko ), the Normal School Fukushima (福岛 师范学校, Fukushima shihan Gakko, founded in 1874 ) and the Youth Normal School Fukushima (福岛 青年 师范学校, Fukushima his shihan Gakko, founded in 1920 ).

The business school was founded in 1921 as Fukushima Fukushima Commercial College (福岛 高等 商业 学校, Fukushima Kōtō shōgyō Gakko ) was founded. She was the only state-owned commercial college in the region of Tohoku and was renamed the business school in Fukushima 1944. The University of Fukushima first had the Faculties of Liberal Arts and Economics. In 1966, the Faculty of Liberal Arts was renamed the Faculty of Education. 1979, the current Kanayagawa campus was reopened, and the faculties moved to the campus. In 1987, the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences was established. 2004 reorganized the university's faculties: two cluster (学 群, gakugun ) were established, and one of them included the four faculties (学 类, gakurui ).
