The Hi (Japanese樋) is the fillet on Japanese swords. In combination with other characters, a volume change will occur for Bi.

Description

The Hi is engraved on the blades or forged into. They can be traced back to the oldest sword blades. The Hi is used to reduce the weight of the blade, without their stability to reduce and improve the interface properties. Another reason is to improve the balance of the blade or restore after a reduction. In this case is referred to as Hi -Bi atoms (后 樋" later Hi "). There are nine different forms of Hi are benamt follows:

Not shown is the:

  • Kuichigai -bi (喰 违 樋): two narrow grooves extending over the half of the blade. The upper groove ( towards the back ) ends, and the lower continues to run and passes around the shorter.

A distinction there is for the Hi, which is incorporated into a blade type shinogi - zukuri: If there is at the throat a very narrow shinogi ( ridge line ), they are called Chiri (散, "Wall of Voices" ). If a very narrow shinogi is available on the mune side of the throat, called this type Kata - chiri (片 散, " a Wall" ) - Figure 9 If a shinogi on the two sides of the Hi is present, this is called Ryo - chiri ( " two walls " ;).
