Fumay
Fumay on the Meuse in the Ardennes is a commune with 3712 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and capital of the canton, near the Belgian border in Charleville- Mézières arrondissement of the department of Ardennes ( Champagne-Ardenne region ).
Geography
Fumay is circled by a loop of the river ( meander ) of the Meuse.
History
In 762 Pippin the Younger gave the lands to the Abbey of Prüm.
Economy
Fumay was known since the 12th century for its slate industry ( Slate city Fumay ). The final slate mine was closed in 1971.
