Fumin (grape)

Fumin is an indigenous red grape variety in the Alpine region of Aosta Valley in northern Italy. In the past it was often confused, according to Giovanni Dalmasso with the variety Moscato. In 1970 she was admitted to the Italian variety list Catalogo Nazionale delle variata di viti.

The late-ripening varieties grew strong results in wines with high acidity and strong tannins. Therefore, the wines have been used mainly as a blending wine, the more the Fumin can be used due to its red fruit pulp as a dyer grape. Only in the last 10 years (as of 2005 ) do you master the variety viticulture technology and offers varietal red wines. The results are first class and are now one of the most typical and most original products in the Aosta Valley. Smallest stocks are also known in Switzerland.
