Funkytown

Funky Town is a disco classic by Lipps, Inc., which was written and produced by Steven Greenberg. The song was released in 1979 on album Mouth to Mouth in February 1980 as a single on Casablanca Records.

History

Steven Greenberg had just landed a local radio hit, when he decided in the summer of 1979, to set up the project Lipps, Inc. in life. Already in the autumn of 1979 appeared the album Mouth to Mouth, where there was also Funkytown. The song text is intended to express that Greenberg in Minneapolis no longer felt comfortable, wishing to go anywhere else, this place is sung in the song Funky Town. There was a dance song with a " pumping rhythm " and the distinctive vocals of Cynthia Johnson, who once gave a boost in popularity abating the disco movement of the 1970s. The song thrives on the constant repetition of the main riffs, the vocals provided with Hall and numerous sound effects.
