Funtana Coberta

The sacred well ( Pozzo sacre ) Funtana Coberta (German covered wells) dates from the 10th century BC and is located in the region of Salto di Quirra in Escalaplano or Ballao in the Sardinian province of Cagliari. From the village, a short walk leads to the well-preserved monument of nuragic.

Steps lead down into the vaulted well chamber. At the end of the staircase to the flat bottom of a circular Tholos of about four meters in diameter. Off-center from where a circular brick well shaft a further five meters in depth where water can still be drawn today. After rain the well level rises and the stairs are covered with greenish water.
