Fur people

The Fur ( Fur: fòòrà, Arabic فور, DMG FUR) are a black African people in the Darfur region of Sudan.

The livelihoods of the sedentary Fur Long is the millet cultivation. Their society is very traditional set up and run by village elders. They speak their own language, Fur, which belongs to the Nilo- Saharan languages ​​, and have adopted the Islamic faith a hundred years ago.

Originally the mountainous region around the Jebel Si and the mountain Marra settlement area of ​​the Fur, retrospectively, most Fur live west and southwest of this region in the low-lying lands. For Some have settled well in Chad.

The life of the Fur led to clashes with the nomadic Baggara living around the fertile soil of the Marra plateau. These tensions led, among other things, the conflict in Darfur.
