Furcraea foetida is a species of the genus Furcraea in the subfamily of the agave ( Agavoideae ). The specific epithet comes from the Latin foetida, means smelly 'or' offensive ' and refers to the smell of crushed leaves.

Description

The first description as Agave foetida by Carl Linnaeus in Species Plantarum was published in 1753. Adrian Hardy Haworth introduced the type 1812 in the genus Furcraea. Furcraea foetida is classified in the genus in the section Furcraea.
