Furdenheim

Furdenheim (German Fürdenheim ) is a commune with 1254 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de communes farmland.

Geography

Furdenheim is on the D30 between Quatzenheim in the Northeast and Ergersheim in the southwest and on the D1004 between Marl home in the west and Handschuheim in the east, 14 kilometers north- west of Strasbourg in farmland, part of the cooker mountain region.

The old cemetery at the Protestant church was closed in 1860, the same year the land was purchased for the new cemetery, the first tombs from 1864 come. The wall of the enclosure was completed in 1867. The original church of Furdenheim was built in the 13th century and dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra. From that original Church exists only the bell tower with the choir. To 1575 the parish was Protestant. The nave was destroyed in 1820 and rebuilt in 1822. A small window in the 13th century was incorporated into a neighboring house. The parish was closed during the French Revolution (1789-1799) and converted into a school. The priest lived while on private individuals. The present parsonage was built in 1912.

1846 a new school was built, which was inaugurated in 1848, the Mairie ( mayor ) is housed in the building.

Economy

Major lines of business of Furdenheimois are farming, viticulture, fruit growing and breeding of domestic swine and bovine animals.
