Furgghorn

The Furgghorn ( Italian: Cima del Breuil ) is a snow-covered 3451 m high mountain in the Matterhorn region ( Valais Alps ) in the south of the Swiss canton of Valais on the border with Italy.

Location

Adjacent peaks to the southeast is the through the Furggsattel separate Theodulhorn ( 3469 m). In the Northwest closes over the Furgggrat the Matterhorn ( Italian: Monte Cervino, 4478 m). The peaks lie exactly on the border between Switzerland and Italy, Valle d'Aosta region. The Furgghorn is in the midst of two (summer), ski resorts, in the northeast on the Theodulgletscher, and south of the Matterhorn, which are accessible from Zermatt and Breuil- Cervinia with numerous cable cars and ski lifts.

Points for the easiest ascent

  • From the CAI Rifugio del Teodulo to 3317 m in half an hour, light according to the literature glacier tour to the SAC mountain and high scale tour.
  • From the intermediate station Dry dock cable car Zermatt Klein Matterhorn in 2 ½ hours in also easier glacier tour to Furgghorn.
  • Mountain station Stazione del Furggen ( 3491 m) of the disused cable car Cresta di Furggen Breuil- Cervinia. From here on the southeast Furggen easily in a three quarter of an hour to the summit.
