Furmanov, Ivanovo Oblast

Furmanov (Russian Фурманов ) is a city in the Ivanovo (Russia) with 36 144 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 35 km northeast of Ivanovo Oblasthauptstadt at the Schatscha, a right tributary of the Volga.

Furmanov is the Oblast administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The city is located on the 1898 consistently opened railway line Yaroslavl - Ivanovo, from which branches off a freight branch line to Wolgoretschensk and local thermal power plant Kostroma here. East to Furmanov performs remote road R600 ( Yaroslavl ), Ivanovo, Kostroma ( - Vladimir) around ( until 2017 also A113 ).

History

In the area of the present town, the village Sereda - Upino was known since the 1620s. This was in 1918 combined with several surrounding, created in the 19th century when textile mills workers' settlements to the city Sereda.

On 13 May 1941, the renamed Furmanov was born here in honor of the writer.
