Furneaux Group

The Furneaux Group (English Furneaux Group) is one consisting of 52 islands archipelago at the eastern end of Bass Strait between the Australian states of Victoria and Tasmania.

The islands were named after the British explorer Tobias Furneaux, who explored the area in 1773. The islands themselves were explored in February 1798 by Matthew Flinders.

The largest islands of the group are Iceland Flinders, Cape Barren and Clarke Iceland Iceland. On Flinders Iceland are 5 settlements: Killiecrankie, Emita, Mark White, Lady Barron, Cape Barren Iceland and Mark White. The latter is the administrative center of the municipality Flinders local government area, which is formed from the islands. These places have 800 inhabitants, the total population of the archipelago is around 900 inhabitants.

The historically significant Aboriginal Dolly Dalrymple was born on the islands.

King Located in Iceland to Australia at the western end of Bass Strait and the north-west of the Furneaux Group Kent Group are not attributed to the archipelago.
