Fuser

The fuser unit is a technical component of a laser, color laser printer or photocopier. It serves to fix the previously applied from the developing unit or the drum toner to the paper.

Construction

A fixing unit usually consists of three different components: a heating element encased by the fixing roller, and made of silicone or the like usually nip roll. This is pressed by springs against the fixing roller.

Operation

The electric current flowing through it from the heating element heats the fixing roller to a temperature of about 180 ° C and thus forms the basis of being able to fuse the toner. For this purpose, the paper is located in the fuser unit is pushed by the pressure roller against the fixing roller, whereby the toner melts and thus a firm connection enters the paper.

As a heating element both halogen lamps and ceramic elements are used. Both types of heating systems have advantages and disadvantages. Thus, halogen lamps are cheaper, but have a limited life. Ceramic heating elements operating temperature more quickly, and have a longer life, but are slightly more expensive to buy.
