Futaba (Fukushima)

Futaba (Japanese双 叶 町, machi ) is a ghost town in the district of Futaba in the Japanese prefecture of Fukushima.

Geography

Futaba is located on the Pacific Ocean. 10 km away from the coast, the highlands Abukuma increases, which is characterized by forests and largely uninhabited. Its highest elevation within the municipality is the Juman -yama (十万 山) with 239 m.

Futaba is surrounded by Namie in the north and in the south of Okuma.

History

Futaba goes back to the established in the wake of the nationwide reorganization of the municipal system on April 1, 1889 the village community Shinzan (新 山村, -mura ) from the former county Shineha (标 叶 郡, -gun ). This county was (双 叶 郡, -gun ), literally, on 1 April 1896 the county Naraha (楢 叶 郡, -gun ) to the district of Futaba, " two ha (叶) " merged.

On February 1, 1913 Shinzan was incremented to the small town ( machi ). With the incorporation of the village Nagatsuka on 1 April 1951, the name was changed in Shineha (标 叶 町, machi ) and exactly five years later in Futaba. The municipality took over the names in the former municipality of Kamioka, which renamed itself in 1950 Futaba, but was incorporated in 1955 by Tomioka.

On April 1, 1958, the districts Nakano (中 野) and parts of Morotake (両 竹) were incorporated from the neighboring Namie, and exactly two years later, followed by parts of Nakahama (中 浜) and turn parts of Morotake.

The city was taken on 11 March 2011 by the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami triggered it, with up to 20 May 25 dead and 10 missing were counted. Traffic

The main trunk roads to Futaba are the National Road 6 by Chūō (Tokyo) or Sendai, and the ending here National Road 288 to Kōriyama.

Twinning

1994 Mizuho became a sister city in Kyoto Prefecture. However, this was amalgamated with Kyōtamba 2005.
