Futabayama Sadaji

Futabayama Sadajiro (Japanese双 叶 山 定 次, born February 9, 1912 in Usa, Oita Prefecture as Akiyoshi Sadajiro (龝 吉 定 次), † December 16, 1968 ) was a Japanese sumo wrestler and the 35th yokozuna.

Futabayamas rise was partly curious: Since the mid-1930s strike a group of Sumōkämpfern, the Sumōverband carried some fighters from the lower ranks in their positions. Futabayama took his chance and quickly showed what was in it. 1936 began an impressive winning streak of 69 consecutive victories that extended over three years and to this day is a record. His promotion to yokozuna received Futabayama 1937. Overall, 1.79 m wide and 130 kg Futabayama came on twelve tournament victories. After his playing career was announced that Futabayama had already been blind during his time wrestler in one eye.

During his career, he founded his own Sumōstall, the Futabayama - Beya, which is usually not allowed. With his resignation shortly after the surrender of Japan in 1945, he ended his active sports career and joined the association as Tokitsukaze Oyakata at. His Heya he renamed accordingly. He sprang from, inter alia, the 42nd Yokozuna Kagamisato. In 1957 he became chairman of the Sumōverbandes, which he remained until his death in 1968. During this time a number of innovations introduced under him, including for Rikishi ( Sumōkämpfer ) from the juryo division fixed salary, age limitations on arbitrators, the introduction of a sumo - school and increasing the number of tournaments from four to six per year.
