Futura International Airways

Futura International Airways was a Spanish charter airline based in Palma, Mallorca.

History

Futura International Airways was founded in 1989 as a joint venture between Aer Lingus, Air Belton and Banco Santander to life. The first flight took place on 17 February 1990. In the 1990s, the company grew through its independent route structure, which was based on niche links, all over Europe.

In 2007, was a collaboration with Cirrus Airlines from which the Futura Germany emerged. However, the aircraft used came back to the parent company.

Futura International Airways introduced on September 8, 2008 to file for bankruptcy because of some 50 million euros of debt and at the same time the flight has ceased operations. The company had argued against wage concessions to the employees. The authorities also spoke out against a reconstruction of society; GECAS also had terminated lease agreements for 15 aircraft due to non- timely payment of installments. Then, the flight operations permit was revoked two weeks later. Last Futura had partially given aircraft to Binter Canarias, ArkeFly and Air Algerie.

Futura had two subsidiaries: the Irish Futura Gael and the Spanish freight company FlyAnt Cargo. Both also filed a flight operations.

Fleet

For adjustment of air operations in September 2008, the fleet consisted of 27 aircraft Futura:

  • 02 Boeing 737-300
  • 11 Boeing 737-400
  • 12 Boeing 737-800
  • 02 Boeing 737-900 ( leased from GECAS )
  • 03 Boeing 737-800

Six more aircraft were operated by the two subsidiaries.
