Future Combat Systems Command and Control Vehicle

The XM1209 Command and Control Vehicle ( C2V ) ( German: command and control vehicle ) is a United States Army project. It was part of the Future Combat Systems program. In an implementation, it would become part of the military Global Information Grid. The C2V operates the information management of the network, distributes the data from the sensors to the various commanders in the field and sent them instructions. With the completion of the FCS program by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, the project was discontinued.

System Description

The Command and Control Vehicle should evaluate the data from the various sensors and create a tactical map of the battlefield. Be displayed:

  • Friendly units
  • Opponent
  • Civilians
  • Weather conditions
  • Terrain conditions

The crew consisted of two men for vehicle operation and four officers. They should communicate via radio, video, and a kind of e- mail with the rest of the network. Since the vehicle was only lightly armored, it should protect distance active protective measures against anti-tank weapons.
