G. Schwechten

Georg Schwechten (* February 4, 1827 Stolzenau, † August 19, 1902 Berlin) was one of the great Berlin piano maker from the second half of the 19th century. Original, well-preserved or restored Schwechten pianos and grand pianos are still considered exemplary for their time and are rare.

History

Georg Schwechten took over in 1853 from his older brother Henry Schwechten ( 1812-1871 ) 1841 in Berlin in the cooking Straße 11 founded a workshop for square pianos and founded with his younger brother Wilhelm ( 1833-1900 to ) in the year 1853, the company G. Schwechten. In 1861 he had a factory in the cooking build road 60 and then bought the neighboring land. The pianos of the company soon acquired a great reputation. G. Schwechten lent his hand especially to the development of upright pianos. After his death, the parent company born from his daughter Anna Maria Clara Fiebelkorn Schwechten was performed, which was built by the Schwechtenhaus for the company. William's sons Friedrich and Wilhelm (1880-1954) Schwechten founded in 1910 Piano Factory Schwechten & Boes, 1911 Gebr Schwechten, 1912 Friedrich Schwechten ( Wilhelmstrasse 118). 1918 both bought back the parent company. The sale was initially continued in the cook street, but was later merged with the production in the Frankfurter Allee 32. In 1921 she did a private concert hall, the Schwechtensaal, built in Berlin- Tiergarten.
