G17 Plus

G17 Plus is a liberal- conservative party in Serbia. She is an associate member of the European People's Party.

The core group consists of 17 experts ( economists, historians, political scientists ) the G17 founded in 1997 as a non-government organization. On 16 December 2002, this organization was officially party, under the leadership of Miroljub Labus.

In the 2003 election the party had won 34 seats in parliament. Three of these seats went to the Social Democratic Party ( Socijaldemokratska partija ), with the G17 Plus a list of connection was received.

In March 2004 she formed with the Democratic Party of Serbia ( Demokratska stranka Srbije ) and a coalition of the Serbian Renewal Movement and New Serbia party, a minority government.

In May 2006 Miroljub Labus resigned as party president. His successor is the Finance Minister of Serbia, Mlađan Dinkić.

On 1 October 2006, the party announced that she is leaving the government coalition, as the government was unable to arrest General Ratko Mladic, wanted by the ICTY on charges of war crimes. This early parliamentary elections were necessary.

In the 2007 parliamentary elections the party won 19 of 250 seats in parliament. She went with the Democratic Party (DS ) and the Demokratska Stranka Srbije - a coalition Democratic Party of Serbia and New Serbia (DDS). The vice - president of the party, Predrag Marković, was elected President of Parliament.

In early 2008 broke apart the coalition, as prime minister Kostunica on March 8, announced his resignation. In the parliamentary elections held on May 11, the party won in a coalition with the pro-European parties together 102 seats in Parliament. After nearly two months of negotiations, the coalition agreed with the Socialist Party of Serbia and some representatives of minority groups on the formation of a coalition government.
