Gaaden is a municipality in the district of Mödling in Lower Austria with 1599 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography

Gaaden located in the northern Vienna Woods at the foot of Anninger in a wide basin, which is drained by the Mödlingbach. The village lies on the Mödlinger road B 11

Through the district affiliation daily life to Mödling is aligned, although swimming is not much further away.

Community structure

Still belongs to the municipality of the cadastral Anningerforst, which is not a separate place, however, and usually only consists of woodland and the dolomite quarry. The Dreidärrischenhöhle located in this forest area.

History

The place since 1376 a reign of Holy Cross Abbey was in 1130 for the first time mentioned. During the Turkish wars of the town was destroyed in each case for the most part.

In the 19th century the place was during the " summer " popular. Many well-known artists spent the summer there, as the poet Ferdinand Raimund, who wrote the spendthrift in Gaaden. The " Kraxenweiberl " in the spendthrift is a symbol of a Gaadener type of man laboriously lives of limestone and timber production for centuries. Other artists, including painters (about Ferdinand Forest Müller) and musicians found in the resort of inspiration for their works.

  • Gaadner Adventmeile: held every year at Christmas time, a Christmas market, the ' Gaadner Adventmeile ' called instead of ( actual length is less than 100 meters). There is not only political groups, but especially clubs and some private showcase operate there a stand
  • Museum Café in Gaadner local museum: every first Sunday of the month there is the popular museum café in Gaadner Heritage Museum

Culture

  • Gaadner brass music: The Gaadner Brass Music was founded in 1986 and is one of 33 active members in 2009. In addition, a youth band exists.

The council consisted in 19 seats, according to the local council elections of 6 March 2005, the following distribution of seats: WE ( list "We Gaadner " ) 11, List 7 ÖVP, SPÖ 1 On 4 December 2007 the ÖVP seven councilors have resigned from the back and since the other candidates charges a waiver, the council was disbanded due to lack of a quorum, so there was an election in 2008.

Since the local elections of March 14, 2010 is at 19 mandates the following distribution of seats (in parenthesis Change from 2008): WE ( list "We Gaadner " ) 13 ( 0) List ÖVP 5 ( 1 ), SPO 1 (-1).

Economy

Previously Gaaden was a purely agricultural and forestry site. But there were also the area in accordance with both limestone quarries and lime kilns. A sawmill was present, which took advantage of the water power of the Mödling creek.

Today Gaaden is a residential community with some second- home owners from Vienna. The few farms are mostly smaller office operations, such as agencies. Nevertheless, craft industry is today but represented, such as a locksmith and a wood- processing company.

Traffic

Gaaden is located on the B 11 road Mödlinger Easily accessible is the church by the Vienna outer ring road A21, which each have a driveway in Sparbach and in Holy Cross. Is a public bus service to the Mödling is mainly used.
