Gaasperdam

Gaasperdam is a neighborhood in the borough of Amsterdam Southeast in the province of North Holland. The district was named after the river Gaasp and comprises the hamlets Nellestein, Holendrecht, Gein and Reigersbos. Gaasperdam had 3,585 inhabitants on 19 September 2012. Thereof in North Gaasperdam 2016 and 1569 in Southern inhabitants.

History

1966 some polders, still at that time belonged to the municipality Weesperkarspel, the municipality of Amsterdam have been allocated. The polders were drained and started with housing. At the field belonged Bijlmermeer, Gein and Gaasp, the result was later city of Amsterdam Zuid -Oost. Gaasperdam was named South Bijlmer originally ( " South Bijlmer ").

In Gaasperdam is the Gaasperpark (also called " Gaasperplaspark " ), on the northern side of the Gaasperplas. The park was created in 1977-1982. 1982 Floriade was held in the park.
