Gabela (Angola)

Gabela is a city in the Angolan province Cuanza Sul. It is the capital of the district ( Municipio ) of Amboim.

An essential part of the coffee production in Angola comes from the area around the city Gabela. By the mid- seventies was Gabela by the proceeds from the coffee growing one of the most prosperous cities of Angola. Since 2013, the cultivation of coffee, especially the Robusta variety, again promoted by the government of the province.

In the region Gabela rare endemic bird species such as the Angola glasses Strangler, whose scientific name Prionops gabela refers to the city life.

The 1941 built under Portuguese colonial rule parish church Igreja de Paroquial Gabela is a listed building.
