Gabino Ezeiza

Gabino Ezeiza ( born February 3, 1858 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, † October 12, 1916 in the province of Córdoba, Argentina ) was an Afro- Argentine singer, guitarist and composer.

Life

Gabino Ezeiza called also " Gabino negro" or " Don Gabino ", was born on February 3, 1858 in San Telmo, a district of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. About his personal life little is known.

The second half of the 19th century saw the birth of many " payadores " ( Impromptu poet ), poet and artist. The poet and musician Gabino Ezeiza was one of the most famous payadores. Due to its effortless improvisations he was also a popular singer. He possessed great talent for rhymes of verses that often arose only on the stage, and a good ear for versification, cadences and rhythm. He also composed over 600 pieces of music.

Ezeiza often entered into rhyme competitions against other payadores to, such as 1891 in a payada with Nemesio Trejo, the whole three nights lasted. In 1912 he entered into Boedo ( Buenos Aires ) against Betinotti Jose. This was on his student. Francisco Pi and Suñer wrote about the payadores: " They were the troubadours of Pampa. In those days they lived the life of preachers, they were wandering bards and vagabonds on farms and in " Pulperias " appeared with their guitars to comment on the remarkable events to call the heroic deeds of famous men to mind again and the Argentine soul to touch. Ezeiza has remained as one of the most famous in the art of payada in memory, both in Argentina and in Uruguay. In memory primarily a payada with Juan de Nava in Paysandú (Uruguay ) remained on 24 July 1884. Reminder to July 24 is annually celebrated in Argentina as the "Day of the Payadors ".

In addition to tours of inland villages Ezeiza came with his guitar in the so-called " Argentine Pavilion " in which in 1893 destroyed by fire.
