Gabonese legislative election, 2011

The parliamentary elections in Gabon in 2011 were carried out on 17 December 2011 and resulted in a majority of more than 90 % of the seats in parliament for the ruling party Parti Démocratique Gabonais of President Ali Ben Bongo Ondimba. As the main opposition parties in the country boycotted the elections, this result, however, is not very meaningful in terms of the actual agreement for the government in the country.

There were 120 seats National Assembly of the Parliament of Gabon. 475 candidates competed for these seats, of which 90 belonged to the ruling party and more than 150 smaller parties that supported the ruling party.

Reason for the boycott of the opposition was the refusal of Ali Bongo, to wait for the installation of a biometric system of voter identification. Without such a system, the opposition parties saw does not ensure tamper-proof elections. Called for a boycott had, inter alia, Jean Eyeghe Ndong, former Prime Minister of Gabon and a former member of the ruling party and a coalition of 12 opposition parties that their campaign under the name " Ca suffit comme ca" ( " That's enough " ) had asked.
