Gábor Obitz

Gábor Obitz, also under the name of Gábor Gábor Óbecsei and Ormai known (born 18 January 1899, † March 20, 1953 ) was a Hungarian football player and football coach.

Club career

Obitz began his career at Ferencvárosi Torna Club, where the technically studded center and side runners in 1922 took his first title when the Franzens townspeople were able to Újpesti TE defeat in the cup final. The following year he moved to Czechoslovakia, where he played for Maccabi Brno. The Maccabee had compiled at this time a very strong team, which consisted mainly of legionaries Hungarian. 1924, however, the club got considerable difficulties with the Association, as he held a number of non-Jewish players - had in its ranks - such as also Obitz.

This left the club and continued his career in Northern Germany, where he worked for Holstein Kiel. There he could win the first 1925 North German Cup, before the following season achieved the double. As a North German master the team played well in the final round of the German Cup, where they pushed forward until the semifinals, where the eventual champions SpVgg Fürth defeated with 1:3.

Then Obitz returned to Hungary, where professional football was introduced now, and played again for the FTC. Under the coach István Tóth - Potya the team around Márton Bukovi, Vilmos Kohut and József Takács picked twice in a row the Double. 1928 Mitropacup could be gained beyond, where Obitz not stood in the Finalelf. In 1931 he ended his active career.

National

His first try in the national team he had in November 1921 in a 4-2 win over Sweden, but could then take a regular place. On the occasion of the Olympic Games in 1924 summoned the Hungarian Association also its operating overseas player and so Obitz came two appearances on the position of the left rotor. The Hungarians, however dropped out in the second round by a 0-3 against Egypt.

On his return to Hungary Obitz was also reinstated in the national team and this time he came to regular operations before he played his last game in April 1930 against Switzerland. Overall, he came up 15 times for Hungary.

Coaching career

His first as a coach was the Romanian club AMEF Arad, which he has edited in the 1931/32 season. Then Obitz spent two years working for the Turkish federation, before 1936 the Yugoslav NK Ljubljana trained. In 1939, he became coach of the Finnish national team. After the Second World War, he oversaw the Zuglói AC.
