Gabriel Acacius Coussa

Gabriel Acacius Cardinal Coussa ( born August 3, 1897 in Aleppo, † July 29, 1962 ) was an archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, an expert in canon law and Archbishop Curia.

Life

Coussa was consecrated on December 20, 1920 as a priest. On 3 March 1946 he was appointed secretary to the interpretation of canon law in the Roman Curia. Coussa was an advisor to Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, who later became Pope John XXIII. was appointed. 1961 appointed to him Titular Archbishop of Hierapolis for the Melkite Church and Prosekretär for the Congregation for the Eastern Churches. A year later, in 1962, he became secretary of the same congregation and of John XXIII. elevated to cardinal priest of Sant'Atanasio dei Greci.
