Gabriel Christie (Maryland)

Gabriel Christie ( born November 29, 1756 in Perryman, Harford County, Maryland, † April 1, 1808 in Baltimore, Maryland ) was an American politician. Between 1793 and 1801 he represented two times the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

About Christies youth and school days nothing is handed down. During the Revolutionary War he served in a company of the state militia of Maryland. He then became a member of the local Chamber of Deputies. Politically, he was an opponent of the federal government under President George Washington. End of the 1790s he joined, founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1792 Christie was selected in the sixth electoral district of Maryland in the time which meets even in Philadelphia U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Upton Sheredine on March 4, 1793. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1797 two legislative sessions. In the elections of 1798 he was again elected in the sixth district of his state in Congress, where he replaced William Matthews on March 4, 1799 which was two years before become his successor. Until March 3, 1801, he could spend another term in Congress. During this time, the new federal capital of Washington DC was related.

In the years 1800, 1801 and 1806, Gabriel Christie member of the council of Havre de Grace. Then he was up to his death head of the tax authority at the port of Baltimore, where he died on April 1, 1808.
