Gabriel Figueroa

Gabriel Figueroa ( born April 24, 1907 in Mexico City, † April 27, 1997 ) was a Mexican cinematographer.

Life

Gabriel Figueroa came in the early 30s as a still photographer for the film, soon became a cameraman and worked for some time as an assistant cameraman Gregg Toland in the U.S.. After returning to his home Figueroa cinematographer and was photographed numerous movies of the most famous Mexican directors that time, Luis Buñuel and Emilio Fernández. In addition, he also worked on numerous second-rate melodramas, adventure and western. Figueroa was especially appreciated for his landscapes and representation of faces.

In 1949 he won a Golden Globe for the film Mexican romance. For his work on The Night of the Iguana, he was nominated for an Oscar in 1965. Throughout his career he has been awarded nine times with a Premio Ariel.

1995 Figueroa was awarded the International Achievement Award from the American Society of Cinematographers.
