Gabriel Iranyi

Gabriel Iranyi ( born June 6, 1946 in Cluj- Napoca, Romania ) is a Romanian -Hungarian- German composer of Jewish origin in the field of new music.

Life

Gabriel Iranyi studied from 1965 to 1971 composition with Sigismund Todutza and piano with Nina Panjewa at the " George Dima " Music Academy in Cluj- Napoca in 1971 and got a Master of Arts in Composition awarded. 1971 Iranyi became Professor of counterpoint with a focus on Renaissance, Baroque and 20th century in Jassy at the " George Enescu Music High School. " 1977 to 1981 he was a lecturer in form, counterpoint and music theory at the Tel Aviv University in Israel.

1978 and 1984 he took part as a DAAD Fellow at the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music in the composition classes of Brian Ferneyhough, Helmut Lachenmann and Cristobal Halffter. Particularly influential were the encounters with György Ligeti, György Kurtág, Morton Feldman and Günther Becker for him.

Since 1988, Gabriel Iranyi lives as a freelance composer in Berlin.

In 2000 he received a doctorate in musicology, with the theme " Contemporary music of the century. Thoughts continuity and validity of compositional techniques ". Since then he has held numerous lectures on new music and his own works at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin, New York University, the University of Wisconsin, the State Music Academy in Berlin, the European Piano Teachers Association, the Carl Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the colleges of music in Rostock, Bucharest and Cluj.

2010 Gabriel Iranyi was elected deputy chairman of the German Society of Composers Berlin.

In 2013 he was invited for a masterclass for young composers and a lecture about his own works at the University of Music in Bucharest, under the " George Enescu" Festival.

Iranyis compositions have been on the music festival Gaudeamus Music Week Amsterdam, Styrian Autumn in Graz, Days of New Music Karlsruhe, ISCM Festival in Israel in 1980 and the ISCM Festival in 1986 in Holland; UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers in 1986 and in Paris in 1999; Israel Festival 1986, Days of New Music in Würzburg in 1997, "Sacred Meets Secular " Wisconsin ( USA), "Music Now and From Almost Yesterday" (Milwaukee, Wisconsin / USA), " ultrasound " Festival of Germany - Radio and Rundfunk Berlin -Brandenburg 2001; " Intersonanzen " Potsdam 2002, at the " International Week of New Music " in Bucharest (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 ), " young- euro -classic " in Berlin in 2003 and New York University Composer's Forum 2003, listed in 2005.
