Gabriel Ochoa Uribe

Gabriel Ochoa Uribe ( born November 20, 1929 in Medellin ) is a former Colombian football player and coach. With 14 national championships El Médico not only one of the great coaches in the world but he is also the most successful coach in the state as a player in goal.

Career

Playing career

From 1946 to 1948 he was with America de Cali in goal. He then moved to the capital Bogota to Los Millonarios CD. This was also the time at which the heyday came on these clubs. Under coach Adolfo Pedernera he played inter alia with the legendary Alfredo Di Stéfano in a team. He had at this time share in the profits of the four Colombian championships won the club 1949-1953. In 1952, he was also one of the injured Di Stéfano by storm, scoring a goal.

In 1954 he became only the second Colombian goalkeeper abroad and joined the América FC in Rio de Janeiro. In Rio he also operates sports medicine studies. In 1955 he returned once more to the Millonarios, where in 1958 he finished his playing career with a runner-up.

Coaching career

Immediately after he hung the goalkeeper gloves on the nail, he began his coaching career at Millonarios and immediately won 1959-1964 Colombian five championships in a row. He leads a first time in 1960, the 4 -4- 2 system in Colombia. After the championship of 1964, he left a club after disagreements in connection with the transfer of players.

In the meantime, he also led the Olympic team of Colombia. In this capacity he led in 1959 for the first time a Colombian national team to a victory over Brazil. In the first year, he led the hitherto not highly assessed club to its first championship. Between 1982 and 1986, followed by another five championships in series, which has since record. He led the club between 1985 and 1987 and three times in the Libertadores final, but failed just under the title. In 1992 he takes his final farewell to the dugout.

Gabriel Ochoa Uribe, who is also the nickname El Médico, the doctor wears, is active since end of his career including as a columnist. He is considered the most important Colombian football coach.
