Gabriele Albertini

Gabriele Albertini ( born July 6, 1950 in Milan, Italy) is an Italian politician, former mayor of Milan, a member of the European Parliament with the Forza Italia party, which is part of the European People's Party.

Life and Politics

After completing his degree in law in 1974, he worked from 1974 to 1997 as an entrepreneur in the making in the aluminum die-casting sector company " Albertini Cesare Spa". From 1987 he was delegate for small business on the Board of the Italian metal industry union Federmeccanica in which he held until 1997 took over the presidency in 1996. 1993 to 1997 was Vice President of Assolombarda. He has held various offices in the Italian industry trade association " Confindustria ".

From 1997 to 2006 he took over the office of the mayor of Milan. After that, he was from 2002 to 2003 Government Commissioner for wastewater clarification of the City of Milan (since 2000) and for immediate action to resolve the traffic and mobility problems of the city of Milan.

Since the 2004 European election for his party he is a member of the European Parliament and sits in the Group of the European People's Party. Here he was first deputy member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, Deputy Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and a substitute member of the Delegation for relations with the United States. After the European election in 2009 he became chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. He is currently a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Delegation for relations with India. In 2013, he ran with the coalition of former Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti as President for the Regional Council of Lombardy region and for the Senate. He was eventually elected Senator.
