Gabriele Zimmer

Gabriele " Gabi " Zimmer ( born May 7, 1955 in Berlin ) is a German politician (The Left ). From 2000 to 2003 she was federal leader of the PDS. She is a member of the European Parliament. In March 2012, she was elected President of the Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left.

Life and career

After high school, graduated from Gabi Zimmer from 1973 study in the section Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig in the Russian and the French language, which she finished in 1977 as a graduate Sprachmittlerin. After that, she joined as a clerk at the VEB hunting and sporting weapons factory in Suhl Ernst Thalmann. From 1981 to 1987 she was editor of the company's own newspaper here and then belonged from 1987 to 1989 the party leadership of the SED of this operation on.

Party

From 1997 to 2000 she was deputy party chairman. On 14 October 2000, she was the successor of Bisky national chairman of the PDS. Member of Parliament

From 1990 to 2004 she was a member of the Thuringian Landtag and here from 1999 to 2000 chairman of the PDS parliamentary party.

In the European elections in 2004 and 2009, she was elected a member of the European Parliament.
