Gabú Region

Gabú is an administrative region in the east of Guinea- Bissau. It is bordered to the north by Senegal, to the east and south by Guinea and to the west by the regions Tombali and Bafatá. Its capital is Gabú.

Named the Region according to the Mandinka empire Kaabu or Gabú that existed from the mid- 16th to mid-19th century here. Today live in the area mainly Fulani and Mandinka.

According to the official census, the region had about 214 520 inhabitants in 2009. With 9150 km ² Gabú is the largest surface area of Guinea-Bissau.
