Geography
Geographical location
Gackenbach is in the chaffinch country in southern Westerwald and in the geographical triangle between Koblenz, Limburg an der Lahn and Montabaur amidst the nature park Nassau.
Community structure
In addition to the main town Gackenbach This and Kirchähr are districts. This has about 70 inhabitants and is situated below Gackenbachs in Gelbachtal. The district is also in the Kirchähr Gelbachtal and consists mainly of the Karl Heim Kirchähr, a youth and conference center of the Diocese of Limburg with an associated campsite.

Parish council
The local council in Gackenbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The twelve seats in the municipal council are divided into two groups of voters.
Culture and sights
Catholic Parish Church of St. Bartholomew and Sebastian
The Catholic parish church of St. Bartholomew and Sebastian in Kirchähr there since at least 1200. Pending the completion of the new parish church in Gackenbach in 1884 it was the seat of the parish Kirchähr. Now this function has taken over the Gackenbacher church and can be seen as a dominant landmark of the village far above the heights of the Buchfinkenland addition. The parish church was fitted internally to a large extent by trappings of the old Romanesque church in Kirchähr. Interesting is, inter alia, the Flügelretabel, which dates from the period around 1480.
Wildlife and Leisure Park Westerwald
In Gackenbach is the wildlife and leisure park Westerwald, can observe many species of native animals and bison in their natural habitat where visitors to approximately 60 hectares. Furthermore, there is a petting zoo, picnic areas and a summer toboggan run of 400 m length.
