Gae Aulenti

Gaetana " Gae " Aulenti ( born December 4, 1927 in Palazzolo dello Stella, Udine, Italy Province; † 31 October 2012 in Milan ) was an Italian architect, interior designer, designer and architectural theorist. She became internationally known through the design of several famous museums in Paris and Barcelona.

Life

Gae Aulenti acquired in 1954 a diploma in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. Subsequently, she worked as a freelance designer in Milan. 1955-1965 she was an editor and graphic designer for the magazine Casabella - continuità ( ISSN 0008-7181 ). 1960-1962 she taught as a scientific assistant architecture composition ( in about building customer) at the University of Venice. 1964-1967 she taught in the same capacity at the Politecnico in Milan.

For the 13th Architecture Triennale in Milan in 1964, she designed the award-winning Italian Pavilion. 1966-1969, she was Vice President of ADI, Associazione per il Disegno Industriale ( Association for Industrial Design ). In 1974 she was board member at the magazine Lotus International ( ISSN 0076- 101X ). 1976-1979 she taught at the Laboratorio di Progettazione Teatrale ( Theatre Project Laboratory ) in Prato. In addition, she was a guest lecturer traveling to the USA, Canada, Spain, Germany, Sweden and in Iran.

The extraordinarily versatile artist created stage sets (especially for the director Luca Ronconi, who animates to this work ), furniture and furnishings, gardens, residential buildings, hotels, schools and office buildings. In the 1980s she became known internationally. 1980-1986 she directed the reconstruction of the Gare d' Orsay into a museum. In 1987, the French President François Mitterrand drew them for this achievement as Chevalier de la Légion d' Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honor ). 1982-1985 she designed the new museum of modern art at the Centre Georges Pompidou. 1985-1992 she directed the reconstruction of the Palacio Nacional de Montjuic in Barcelona Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya. In 1989 she was made an honorary member of the Association of German Architects BDA and 1991 she was awarded for her achievements in the field of architecture, Praemium Imperiale, the Japanese imperial family.

About their work and the lack of a uniform style in which she remarked: "Because style is an error I can not be everywhere at one and the same handwriting work because it is the place that determines the way in which something is to be designed. .. style means the repetition of a same old same old idea and details.
