Gaël Duval

Gaël Duval (born 1973 in France ) is a co-founder and former board member of the French software company Mandriva.

Biography

Duval studied at the University of Caen network technologies. During his studies he became acquainted with the Linux operating system. His preferred distribution Red Hat but did not include the then newly formed KDE desktop because Red Hat was waiting for the first stable version of GNOME. Therefore adapted Duval Red Hat Linux 5.1 and provided it with KDE 1.0. He named this resulting in July 1998 Distribution Linux Mandrake 5.1. Initially, the version numbers of Linux - Mandrake still resembled those of the corresponding Red Hat version, but Mandrake was always deviating from Red Hat and eventually founded Duval together with his friend Jacques Le Marois in Paris the company Mandrake Soft SA - Mandriva since 2005. Since March 2006, Duval no longer works for Mandriva. He has a new project - Ulteo - prescribed, which are open which are still in beta, online desktop and since December 2007, for the first time allows OpenOffice.org ( via Java ) to use in the browser.
