Gaetano Besozzi

Gaetano Besozzi (* March 25, 1725 or 1727 in Piacenza, † 1798 in London ) was an Italian oboist and composer.

The son of Giuseppe Besozzi was since 1740 oboist at the court of Naples. From 1765, he worked in the service of the King in Paris and Versailles. Between 1768 and 1788 he appeared at the Concerts spirituels. His performance was applauded by the audience and the music critics and was mentioned approvingly by the musicologist Charles Burney. Since 1778, he received a pension from the French king. Before the outbreak of the French Revolution, he fled to London, where he worked until his death.

Besozzi emerged as a composer of chamber music works. His son Girolamo, the grandfather of the composer Louis Désiré Besozzi was known as a musician.
