Gaetano Greco

Gaetano Greco ( * 1657 in Naples, † 1728 ) was an Italian music teacher and composer of the Neapolitan school.

Gaetano Greco was the son of Francesco Greco of 1648 to 1673 taught at the "Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini ". Gaetano was a student at the "Conservatorio dei Poveri di Gesù Cristo " his hometown, as a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti, then he worked there as an assistant. From 1696 until his death he was the conductor of the Conservatory, followed by Francesco Durante. Among his students Domenico Scarlatti and Nicola Antonio Porpora.

Greco contributed to his teaching activities at much the upswing of musical development in his native city at the turn of the century.
