Gaius Acilius

Gaius Acilius was a Roman senator and historian of the gens Acilia.

Acilius ' family belonged to the Roman nobility, and he himself was a member of the Senate. Because of his knowledge of Greek was Acilius 155 BC as a translator for the philosopher Carneades, Diogenes and Critolaus active, who had come as envoys Athens to Rome.

Acilius wrote a history of Rome in Greek, which ranged from the "arrival of the Trojans " in the west to probably 146 BC. According to Livy, it was released to 142/41 BC. The only fragmentarily preserved work was eventually translated into Latin by a certain Claudius, but this is uncertain.
