Gaius Julius Verus Maximus

Maximus Caesar ( Gaius Julius Verus Maximus actually; * 216, † April 238 at Aquileia ) was the son of the Roman Emperor Maximinus Thrax and his wife Caecilia Paulina.

In 236, a year after the government takeover of his father, Maximus was awarded by the Senate of the title of Caesar, which he was appointed heir and co-regent. Although he himself called Germanicus, Maximus is hardly cared about military matters, according to later sources, but preferably have indulged in luxury. If so, he might put in this way the displeasure of the legionaries for, which in Aquileia took the opportunity in the murder of his father in April 238 to get rid of even the presumptive successor. After another reading Maximus, however, was an educated, sociable young man who would have been able to improve his father's relationship with the Senate, would have sent him to Rome this. The severed heads of father and son were found in Rome on display.
